The Purpose of a Resume

The Purpose of a Resume

Hi. My name is Sarah. As a career educator, I help a lot of students
with their resume. The purpose of a resume is to highlight your
most relevant and important experiences, skill sets and accomplishments. Your resume is a living document that over
time will be used for a variety of reasons. When applying to a company, a well-written
and tailored resume will land you an interview. In addition to potential employers, resumes
may be submitted to apply to graduate school, scholarships, or when you ask someone to serve
as a professional reference. Remember, the reason you are writing a resume
will dictate what information is relevant and the structure to fit the reader’s needs. So remember, your resume should make an impression! The reader should be able to quickly identify
the value your experiences, skills and accomplishments bring to the table.
