Skype Interview Tips

Skype Interview Tips

Hi, Philip Chesney here from English interviews. For today’s video, we are going to talk
about Skype interviews, so video conferences. So we are going to see nine tips on how to
ace your next Skype interview. Let’s take a look! For our first one you need to have a professional
Skype name username, use your name Philip Chesney, Philip.Chesney something similar
to that, Not IamThestrongestManAlive or something that’s not at all professional. So keep it professional. Number 2, accept the Skype call, there will
be times when you receive a phone call and they will want to schedule a Skype call with
you. Accept it. You may not have done this before, but if
you say, Hey, ya know, I would really prefer to have a phone call. You may not even get that. So accept the Skype call. Really really important. Number 3, dress appropriately. Do not consider a Skype interview as unprofessional. This is a real interview, so treat it like
one. Dress appropriately, dress to impress. Where a suit, where a tie, wear formal attire
for this interview. Very important. Number 4, background and lighting. Now first of all, your background should really
tell the interviewer something about you. Why do I say this? If you have a messy background behind you,
then this really means well this person is probably disorganized, not at all tidy, maybe
someone they are not going to want on their team. So we really suggest, get in front of a wall,
a clean wall, a white wall, a blue wall, that will suffice. And next, have a good couple of lamps around,
have good proper lighting, because they want to be able to see your face. This is really important. And especially see your eyes, very important. So be aware of your background and your lighting. Number five, use a good headset and webcam. No first of all, if they can’t hear you
well, well then this really defeats the purpose of the Skype interview so make sure you have
a good headset you know you can use the headset it comes with the iPhone or with the android
devices, this will work just fine. But make sure you test these before you actually
start. Make sure it is really recording good audio. And also make sure you use a good WebCam.
this is very important because if your WebCam is not very good they can’t see you well,
and the whole idea of a video conference and a Skype interview, is for them to see you
well an get to know the person on the other end. so this is key! Next one number six look into the WebCam now
this is very important because if you’re looking at other spots on your screen, you
are not creating eye contact with the interviewer, so look into the camera. This is a little bit strange, but for the
person who is watching you, this definitely creates more trust. S look into the webcam. Next one, be prepared for tech glitches. Tech glitches they happen. No doubt. So be prepared for it, so if it happens maybe
you might have a back up plan. You need to be prepared for this. So think about some plan B’s here, some
contingency plans. Number eight, eliminate any disturbances and
any ambient noises. Now when we’re talking about disturbances,
there might be other people that live with you at the house, so let them know, hey I’m
going to be in a meeting from this time to this time please no interruptions, I’m not
taking any phone calls at this time. And ambient noise, you should be in an area
that doesn’t have a lot of noise from the street, this could be motorcycles, dogs barking,
babies crying etc. try to shield yourself from those things, because remember we want
to create a solid first impression. Number 9, Be aware of your body language. Super important here the reason why is you
know, maybe you are scratching your face, maybe you’re playing with your hair you’re
moving back and forth watch out for this because this is giving signals to the interviewer. He can tell Phil is a little nervous or something
you don’t want to show them that. we really suggest that you go on Camera before
hand just to see how you react when you’re talking about yourself, so do a practice run. And to wrap up forour tip of the day, I want
you to do a quick run through of an interview, but recording yourself. go on to Windows movie maker or another recording
device and record yourself interviewing looking directly into the camera so you can feel better
in front of the camera. So I am just going to write these tips on
the screen so we can quickly review them. And once again thank you for watching today’s
tip and I will see you next Tuesday and don’t forget to subscribe to the channel and feel
free to share it with your friends who are on the job hunt. Take care!
