Justin Bieber Opens Up in New ‘Vogue’ Interview: Depression, Celibacy and More | Billboard News

The Biebs has broken his two-year-long media silence, and he’s keeping it real. In a new cover interview for ‘Vogue,’ Justin Bieber opened up about becoming famous so young, his struggles with depression, as well as the hot topic – religion. Joined by his wife Hailey Baldwin, the 24-year-old pop star shared, “I started really feeling myself too much… I got very arrogant and cocky. I was wearing sunglasses inside.” He recalled how he became depressed after what many people have labeled his “apology-tour” – that is his massive 150-concert “Purpose” world tour – which he cancelled with just 14 shows left. Bieber told the magazine, “I got really depressed on tour. I haven’t talked about this, and I’m still processing so much stuff that I haven’t talked about. I was lonely. I needed some time.” He then went on to offer some insight into what a lot of fans have been wondering about – all that celibacy and religion stuff. Bieber revealed he chose celibacy in an effort to “feel closer to God” and to fight what he says was a “legitimate problem with sex.” He added that he believes it’s all thanks to this reflective period that he and Hailey rekindled their relationship last June. Elaborating, he said, “Sometimes people have sex because they don’t feel good enough. Because they lack self-worth. Women do that, and guys do that. I wanted to rededicate myself to God in that way because I really felt it was better for the condition of my soul. And I believe that God blessed me with Hailey as a result. There are perks.” In the end Bieber noted he doesn’t consider himself religious, adding, “I don’t want to be thought of as someone who stands for any of the injustice that religion has done and does do.” This doesn’t even begin to scratch the surface. Justin and Hailey talk about so much more. Check out the interview for yourself at Billboard.com. Until next time, for Billboard News, I’m Jordyn Rolling.
