How To Use Keyboard Shortcuts (Windows 10)

Hello ladies and gentlemen and welcome back
to this windows 10 course. In this video we are going to learn about
keyboard shortcuts coming up. Keyboard shortcuts are one or more keys used
together on your keyboard to perform some type of action. Keyboard shortcuts are not something you have
to learn, you can use shortcuts if you prefer. They are not required to used but will make
your life a little easier while using your windows 10 computer. Some keyboard shortcuts will have you use
function keys. Function keys are usually found at the top
of your keyboard over here. These keys are used with keyboard shortcuts
to perform some type of action. Sometimes you have to change these keys into
keyboard shortcuts because by default they usually perform some type of action already
for example, on some keyboards or laptop keyboards pressing the f11 or f12 key allows you to
adjust the brightness of your screen and f2 allows you to rename a file or folder. In order to change these keys into keyboard
shortcuts sometimes you have to press a key called the FN on your keyboard. The FN key is a key that is also used in other
types of keyboard combinations. For example, one function key could have two
functions like to change the brightness and change the volume. Using the FN key allows you to sometimes toggle
between the two functions that key has. This is a important detail to learn while
learning about keyboard shortcuts. If you want to know about the keyboard shortcuts
you can use for your windows 10 computer, you can type in this link in a web browser. Pause the video if you need to and then press
enter. So here is the site you can use to learn many
keyboard shortcuts and this list is always updating. So you can come back to this site every now
and then to find out what new keyboard shortcuts you can learn. But of course going through all these keyboard
shortcuts will make this a 5 hour long video so im going to just go through a couple. You can always come back to this site if you
want to stay up to date with your keyboard shortcuts. So Go ahead and scroll down a bit until you
see the show all button, go ahead and click on that. So on this site you can find many keyboard
shortcuts you can use to make your life easier while using windows 10. So how this website will work simply by pressing
a key command on the left hand side to perform some type of action on the right hand side. So for example to close an app that you are
currently using also known as the active app. You can press and hold on the alt key and
tap the f4 key. This will close the app you are currently
working on. Just a quick reminder, modifier keys are located
on the top of your keyboard. Once again, these keys are also used with
keyboard shortcuts to perform some type of action. Let’s say you want to right click on something. You can of course click on the right side
of your mouse, but let’s use the keyboard shortcut this time which is the shift key
and the modifier key of f10. So im going to click on the item i want to
right click on like the taskbar for example. Then im going to press and hold the shift
key and tap the f10 key. And i should see the same menu if i were to
right click on the taskbar with my mouse. Modifier keys are always easy to find because
they are on top of your keyboard most of the time. Let’s choose a keyboard shortcut here just
to give you an example of how to use this site. Let’s say i would like to learn how to select
everything in a word document called dragon so i can transfer the words to another word
document called apple. Im going to need the select all command which
is the ctrl key and the a key has well has the cut and paste commands which is the ctrl
key and the x key and the ctrl key and the v key. So im going to open these two words documents
side by side. We will learn how to put windows side by side
in other videos but in the dragon word document i have information about dragons that i want
to move to the another word document called apple. So i could just put my mouse cursor next to
the first word in this word document and click once until my mouse cursor turns into a I
shape. Then click and hold my mouse, and drag my
mouse to the bottom right hand corner of this text and let go. That was a pretty long process with a lot
of steps, but the quicker way to do this is to press and hold the ctrl key and tap the
a key. This shortcut copies almost everything mostly
text in this word document or any type of file, website etc. Now what we want to is move this text to the
another word document called apple, to do this we’ll cut this text using the ctrl
key and the x key. So what im going to do is press and hold the
ctrl key and tap the x key. Now my text has been put in storage on my
computer also known as the clipboard. Now im going to click inside my other word
document and use the paste command which is the ctrl key and the v key. So i going to press on the ctrl key and tap
the v key and now my text is back inside the word document called apple. Paste takes whatever was place in storage
inside your computer’s memory and places it back where you placed your text blinker. So that was a brief overview on how keyboard
shortcuts work. Thank you so much for watching and i will
talk to you in the next video.
