How To Prepare For A Skype Job Interview – Digital Career Tips by Bubble Jobs

Skype interviews are becoming more commonplace
as part of the recruitment process. Face-to-face interviews can be time consuming to organise
and for employers to conduct, so employers are looking at new ways to speed up the interview
process and this is – as I say – becoming much more commonplace. So there’s a few tips
on how you should prepare for a Skype call or Skype interview. First of all, most important,
wherever you’ve chosen to conduct the call, make sure that you’ve got a suitable internet
connection. The last thing that you want is for the call to be dropping out or for there
to be a massive time delay in the conversation, as that can be really off-putting. Remember:
don’t be too casual. You may have chosen to conduct the interview from home, but approach
it in the same way as if you were going to a face-to-face interview. An employer is not
going to want to see you lounging around in your onesie. Surroundings: remember your surroundings.
The employer can see them too, so consider finding somewhere quiet and then visually
with a plain background or wall. You don’t want the interviewer to be distracted by posters
or blaring music in the background – you want them to be focused on you. Take advantage
of the situation as well – a Skype call does give you some advantages. For example, if
you’re not sure of all the points you want to get across or you’re worried you might
not remember some things, then create some crib notes and stick them on some post-it
notes around the edge of your screen so that you can give yourself a gentle reminder. Most
importantly: be yourself. It can be easy to be a little bit camera-shy, it can be a bit
daunting if you’ve been doing it for the first time, but just try and remember to look the
interviewer in the eye, as you would in a normal face-to-face interview. And also remember
that it could be their first time or very new to them, so you could well be both in
the same boat.
