My name’s Owen Roth and in this clip I’ll
be talking about what you need to conduct a video interview. First off, there’s just
one piece of equipment you actually need and that would be a camcorder, obviously. Now
there’s other things you’re going to need that aren’t physical items such as a subject,
an interviewee who you’re going to be interviewing, a location and a plan on how you’re going
to incorporate this interview, what it’s going to be used for. But there are other pieces
of equipment besides the camcorder that can help you. And these are the other equipment.
Key one being a tripod. This is going to help you especially if, wrong way here, especially
if you’re the only one doing the interview. If you’re the only one asking questions, you’re
going to need a tripod to hold the camera for you so you don’t have to focus on that.
You can focus purely on interviewing. And the other tools are obviously some form of
audio. It’s best not to use the camcorder mic, because that’s not going to do the best
job with picking up audio. So you might want to get a boom with a shotgun microphone or
a lapel like the one I’m wearing. Whether it’s wireless or wired, it doesn’t matter.
And then, obviously, are the lights. And the different type of light controls, like this
poster board here which can be used as a reflector. And these lights are pretty fancy ones. This
one’s got barn doors and it’s actually focusable with the lens, and this one’s just a broad
light. But these tools allow you to control the light in whatever situation you are in
and hopefully make a really good looking video. But the only essential piece of equipment,
like I said before, is the camcorder. So don’t feel scared that you can’t do it just because
you have a camcorder. You can do it just with that. You don’t need this, but this does help.
